Be Kind Rewind
Any fan of cinema in recent times will tell you how amazing Michel Gondry's work has been in the last ten years or so. First there was "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" a film which is always up there in my top 20. It teamed Gondry's lunacy and visual flare with Charlie Kaufman (One of the best screen writers working today). Both of these guys have an interesting twist on there view of everyday life. This shared vision is what really sells the beautifully told story of Eternal sunshine.
Next for Gondry was a strange step for him as although he has had extensive experience in shooting everything from music videos (doing videos for artists such as Bjork, Daft punk, Chemical brothers and many more.) to full length features, this next film would be his first self written piece of work, and compared to Eternal sunshine his "Science of sleep" did lack slightly in its narrative but visually this film is something really special and really has to be seen to be believed, and was in my top 10 of 2006.
So we come to his newest film "Be kind rewind" which although is definitely his most mainstream work to date, starring Jack Black and Mos Def it still has an interesting twist and completely fits into the Gondry cannon. So i am really looking forward to seeing this film and hope for more movie madness from Gondry in the future.
